THC/CBD E-Liquid VS Cartridge: what is the difference?

If you are an adept of vaping, surely you are already familiar with CBD and THC e-liquids and cartridges. At first glance, the two products seem pretty similar, however they both have their specificities.

The variety of products available on the market can cause consumers to feel confused in regards to their purchasing decision. In fact, the cannabis industry offers dozens of possibilities to consume CBD and THC. Cartridges and e-liquids enable consumers to inhale cannabinoids in a safer, more convenient and above all more discreet way.

So what are the differences between these two products?

  • E-Liquid:

Sometimes referred to as vape juice, e-liquids are usually used for cannabis-free vaping. The formulas often contain nicotine as well as a variety of scents. However, it is now possible to find e-liquids containing high levels of CBD and THC (in countries where medical and / or recreational cannabis is legal). The e-liquids contain a base of non-toxic additives as well as flavoring agents making each e-liquid unique.

  • Cartridge:

The cartridges are made from CO2 extraction ; a process that isolates cannabinoids and terpenes from unwanted molecules. They contain oils from hemp or cannabis plants. Nowadays, it is possible to find cartridges with a high percentage of CBD and / or THC, here again, depending on the legislation of each country.

The main differences between e-liquids and cartridges lie in the additives used in these products as well as the potency of the final product. There are two types of cannabinoid categories:

  • CBD E-liquids and cartridges: these products do not cause any psychoactive effects. In other words, they don’t get you high. You can use them during the day as well as in the evening because their effect is rather clear-sighted.
  • THC E-liquids and cartridges: these products cause psychoactive effects. Consumers are encouraged to choose their product carefully because the effect varies greatly depending on the level of THC and the terpenes that accompany it. The sensations can vary from relaxation to euphoria, from physical to mental…

Additives are added to these formulas in order to dilute the product and give it substance.

  • E-liquids: propylene glycol, a non-toxic additive that brings out the scents of the terpenes. However, it is slightly aggressive for the throat. Vegetable glycerin : enable consumers to exhale large clouds of vapor.
  • Cartridges: some cartridges do not contain any additives, which therefore means that the products contain an exceptional amount of THC or CBD. However, these full spectrum distillate or extracts are much more expensive due to their purity and potency.

So, if we summarize:

  • E-liquids: cheaper, easier to prepare, smoother puffs, huge clouds of vapor but higher amounts of additives, less potent, not that many products with THC.
  • Cartridges: powerful, few / no additives, wide range of products with THC but more difficult to produce and therefore more expensive.
