90% of Spanish Population Support The Legalization of Medical Cannabis

The pro-cannabis movement is surely going forward in Spain as 90.1% of Spanish citizens defend the legalization of medical marijuana and 49.7% support its recreational use according to the latest CIS barometer survey.

The numbers are increasing in comparision to the end of 2018, year of the last report of the CIS where 84% voted in favor of the legalization of cannabis for therapeutic purposes while 47% supported the recreational use of the plant.

The statistic came just one day before 4/20, World Cannabis Day. This day celebrates all marijuana defenders who support the decriminalization and the normalization of cannabis.

Cannabis is in fact on everyone’s lips, including inside the governements. Five months ago, the UN removed cannabis from Schedule IV of the 1961 Drug Convention while recognizing its medicinal benefits. The vote was approved with 27 votes in favor of the 53 States of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs, in which all the Member States of the European Union, except Orban’s Hungary, supported this measure. Other countries, where other types of regulations already exist, such as Canada, Colombia, the United States, Mexico and Uruguay, have voted in favor of removing the plant from the drug list and recognizing its medicinal benefits.

According to the organization Representación Cannábica de Navarra (RCN), the legalization of cannabis would benefit the Spanish government of about 6,000 million annual taxes.

Spain could soon follow the example of the US where the legalization in 16 US states has created nearly 300,000 jobs. Another study shows that legalization of cannabis in Spain could create 90,000 jobs before 2030.
