Worldpharma Biotech has the permission of the AEMPS to import cannabis produced by the Tilray company in Portugal.
Spain will start receiving a shipment of legal cannabis from Portugal after the Spanish Medicines Agency has authorized the importation for commercial research purposes. The multinational cannabis company Tilray, founded in Canada, will send cannabis from its Portuguese subsidiary to Spain, bound for the Valencian company Worldpharma Biotech.
According to the press release distributed by Tilray, with imported cannabis, the Spanish company Worldpharma will develop products for clinical trials in Spanish hospitals “on diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and skin inflammations.” The press release assures that “this shipment of medical cannabis is the first that Worldpharma imports to Spain”, but the same Valencian company already imported cannabis oil from the Czech Republic last summer.
Although medicinal cannabis is not regulated in Spain, the Spanish Medicines Agency has granted several licenses that allow the production of cannabis for medicinal purposes, its sale is not allowed in Spain, but it has already been exported to countries such as Germany. According to the information provided to the Public newspaper by the agency, in all of Spain there are 4.21 hectares of authorized cannabis crops.
The Portuguese subsidiary is the Canadian company Tilray‘s commitment to the European market. The company established as Tilray Portugal Unipessoal has permits for the production of cannabis, and has the capacity to develop research and also facilities for the packaging and distribution of the production.
