Har\u00e1 poco m\u00e1s de una semana la alcaldesa de \u00c1msterdam, Femke Halsema, anunci\u00f3 que el pleno municipal estudiar\u00e1 prohibir la entrada de los turistas a los 166 coffee shops de la ciudad, cerrando las puertas de uno de sus reclamos tur\u00edsticos m\u00e1s c\u00e9lebres y deseados: la venta y consumo de marihuana.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Esta iniciativa forma parte de un plan de reformas liderado por Halsema, elegida en 2018, para reducir el hacinamiento en el Barrio Rojo<\/a>. Tal como apunt\u00f3, un tercio de los coffee shops de los Pa\u00edses Bajos se encuentran concentrados dentro de las fronteras de la ciudad, conocida como la Venecia del Norte, y seg\u00fan un estudio hecho por el mismo gobierno, un 58 % de los turistas extranjeros que van de visita lo hacen para consumir drogas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Las restricciones, que entrar\u00edan en vigor a partir del pr\u00f3ximo a\u00f1o, permitir\u00e1n el acceso a sus mundialmente conocidas cafeter\u00edas \u00fanicamente a los residentes del pa\u00eds.\n\nEl objetivo es atraer a un turismo de m\u00e1s alto poder adquisitivo y promocionar otros atractivos de la ciudad, como \u201csu riqueza, belleza e instituciones culturales\u201d, tal como dijo la alcaldesa de la ciudad, ya que \u201cobservan que muchos grupos de j\u00f3venes acuden a la ciudad solamente para ir a sus coffee shops\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Los tecnicismos legales que posibilitan la venta de productos cann\u00e1bicos en los Pa\u00edses Bajos son algo intrincados. Desde 1976, bajo una \u201cpol\u00edtica de tolerancia\u201d se despenaliz\u00f3 la posesi\u00f3n de menos de 5 g, pero la producci\u00f3n sigue siendo ilegal. La propuesta lanzada por el Ayuntamiento, junto con la polic\u00eda y la fiscal\u00eda, se presenta como una medida de control sobre el turismo de drogas, las bandas organizadas y el mercado negro. Por el contrario, Joachim Helms, portavoz de la Asociaci\u00f3n de Minoristas de Cannabis, alert\u00f3 de que la demanda de estos productos seguir\u00e1 existiendo, lo que impulsar\u00e1 el tr\u00e1fico de drogas en las calles y con ello el mercado ilegal, hecho que precisamente se pretende evitar con la reforma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
