Health Canada plans to review regulations on the labeling of cannabis products before the revision of the cannabis law set for next October.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Just three years after the legalization of recreational cannabis use, the federal government of Canada plans to review, amend and expand the legislation passed in October 2018.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Faced with such a situation, Health Canada has recently received suggestions, launching the corresponding proposals to the public and parliamentarians. One of them, to develop a more suitable and detailed labeling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The laws on packaging currently in force in Canadian territory are quite restrictive. They restrict the color of the container to a single color, not fluorescent. Nor can it contain images beyond a small brand logo and the certified cannabis product seal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As for the product description, it is very limited. Little is specified other than the warning of the psychoactive effects of cannabis use and the relevant regulation: the name of the producer, the product and the levels of THC and CBD it contains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The proposal launched by Health Canada proposes to expand this information by adding to the description the levels of other cannabinoids and terpenes also present in the plant. As well, a small explanation \u2014as we can already see in some American products\u2014 of its effects, flavor, aromas, suggestions on its use, etc .; just like in wine bottles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The establishment of these new measures will enable producers to design more attractive packaging for the consumer and at the same time, it would be an incentive to improve the quality of the product because its composition will be clearer and more evident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reforms that will be approved in October represent the third important step in Canada’s cannabis experiments and its repercussions will exceed its borders. A large number of countries follow behind: the United States, Israel, New Zealand, Ukraine, Mexico , France\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the legalization of recreational use in 2018, the insufficiency of stores and products limited their sales in 2019 and during the past year, new stores opened, retail prices fell, and quality improved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What will be new in 2021, now that the Canadian government is thinking about rethinking cannabis regulation and giving it a \u201cless bad\u201d tint?<\/p>\n\n\n\n
